Walker closed his eyes and tried to go back to sleep, but his anxiety kept him awake. "Ok, in the morning I'll look for a group," Walker said. Maybe you'll be more comfortable talking with other combat veterans." If not with me, then find a support group for people like you. Images of Dubai plagued him in his night terrors. "Welcome home," Lina replied as tears streaked down her cheeks. After a long embrace, Walker released Jeffrey and approached his wife. "Mom and all the Delta people said you were dead and I should move on," Jeffrey said excitedly, "But I knew you were still alive. "Wow, you're much bigger and stronger since the last time I saw you," Walker said as he hugged his son back. Jeffrey ran into his arms and hugged him. When Walker got off the plane in Pittsburgh, his wife Lina and son Jeffrey were waiting for him. Through her parted lips, Jack could see she had pointed, razor-sharp teeth. "You've been upgraded to first class."Īs she handed Walker his new ticket, she flashed him a smile. "Mister Walker, I have good news," she said. She appeared to have subtle makeup on that made her face look eerily similar to Laughing Jack's. When he got to the front of the line, a woman dressed in all black with a white burqa was waiting for him behind the desk. Walker's name was called over the airport intercom and he went to the nearest service desk. The man danced along gracefully, each step forward as if he was waltzing along with an invisible partner. The other thing that was strange about the man is that he was not even walking at all. He was not wearing the uniform of an airport employee, instead dressed in a tan sportscoat and slacks. A man was walking along among the planes and baggage carts, and he looked very out of place. Walker experienced firsthand the wickedness of the CIA interrogator who dressed as a monochrome clown, and shuddered at the thought of him.īelow him, on the tarmac, someone caught Walker's eye. Walker felt bad for the higher dimensional creature that had been captured by Laughing Jack. The whispering in his ear stopped, just like Laughing Jack said it would. His mind was much clearer after his encounter with the slender man with no face. He sat in a chair overlooking the tarmac, absorbed in memories. That time, massive sandstorms rendered the city uninhabitable, and a rogue battalion of US soldiers terrorized the few survivors of the storms. It was now years later than the last time Walker was here. It was so unreal, seeing the city after it came back to life. Martin Walker waited in the airport in Dubai.
